4 Potential Trade Destinations for Stars' Mason Marchment

The Dallas Stars are in a very tough spot this offseason, as they only have 16 players signed currently for next season, and head into the offseason with under $5 million in cap space. Something has to give for GM Jim Nill and it likely means Mason Marchment is a trade candidate.

Look for Marchment to be shopped at the NHL Draft in a couple of weeks. The power forward has one season left on his deal at $4.5 million AAV, and owns a 10-team no-trade clause. Marchment scored 22 goals and 47 points in 62 games during the regular season, however, went silent in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, finishing the Stars run with just one goal and five points in 18 games.

Here's four teams to look out for as suitors for Marchment this summer:

Anaheim Ducks

The Ducks are going to be one of the more aggressive teams this offseason, as GM Pat Verbeek wants to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Ducks have $38.6 million in cap space and are going to use a good chunk of it, which could mean bringing in Marchment from Dallas. He'd give their forward group a new look as they don't have a ton of size up front, and snarl, but his power forward game could be a wonderful complement to the group.

Columbus Blue Jackets

The Blue Jackets were the feel good story of the season and almost made the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They have a ton of cap space and are going to be looking to upgrade almost every element of their team. Because the Stars are stuck this summer, don't expect to see much more than a second or third-round draft pick, or mid-level prospect heading to Dallas in the deal.

Carolina Hurricanes

The 'Canes are going big fish hunting but that doesn't mean they won't add secondary scoring to their forwards as well. The Hurricanes have $28.4 million in cap space and adding Mitch Marner and trading for Mason Marchment could be a huge boost to their top-nine. They have the money, we'll see how aggressive Eric Tulsky gets.

Toronto Maple Leafs

The Maple Leafs are making changes to their DNA and Marchment, at 6-foot-5, would give Craig Berube a new weapon up front, and someone who can replace Max Pacioretty in the Leafs lineup. First things first, they will try to re-sign Marner, but if it doesn't go as planned, look for Treliving to pivot to the trade market, and Marchment could be a low-risk addition with just one year left on his deal.
