Breaking NHL News: Flyers Re-Sign RFA Noah Cates

The Flyers have signed Noah Cates to a new 4-year, $16M contract

He began the season with a series of healthy scratches, but finished it strong. Now restricted free agent forward Noah Cates has earned himself a new four-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers, with a $4 million AAV.

This is pretty close to the numbers that AFP Analytics had projected for Cates (they had him pegged at a $4.6M AAV over three years). There is no trade protection in the deal.

Noah Cates earns nice deal after a strong season

The middle-six checking forward re-established himself as a dependable defensive forward this year, and even added a career-high 16 goals, along with 37 points and a plus/minus rating of +3. He finished the season on an offensive high, with eight points in his last eight games.

The 26-year-old was a 5th-round pick by the Flyers in the 2017 NHL Draft, and in 235 career NHL games with Philly, has 40 goals and 62 assists for 102 points. He's averaged 15:50 time on ice per game.

Cates would have been arbitration-eligible as a restricted free agent this summer. He had been on a two-year, $2.65 million deal, so his new contract offers a nice raise for the 6'2", 194-pound forward.
