Breaking NHL Trade News: Chris Kreider Waives No-Trade Clause

Chris Kreider waived his no-trade clause, and now heads to the Anaheim Ducks

Two days later, it's finally official. Chris Kreider has waived his no-trade clause, and the longtime New York Rangers star is on his way to the Anaheim Ducks.

In his second big trade with the Ducks in the past year, it completes the latest move in Blueshirts' GM Chris Drury's big shakeup of the team, but it also robs the Rangers of a player who has 10 seasons of 20+ goals in his 13-year career with the club, including a 52-goal campaign just three years ago. But Kreider's production plummeted this past season, when he registered 22 goals and just eight assists for 30 points in 68 games, by far his worst season.

What do the Rangers receive in the Chris Kreider trade?

Centre Carey Terrance, the Ducks' No. 10 prospect, and a mid-round draft pick head to New York in the deal. Terrance, the smooth-skating center, was Anaheim's second-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. He just completed his 4th year in juniors with the Erie Otters with 20 goals in 45 games.

The two sides first came to a tentative agreement on Tuesday night, but the Ducks were on Kreider's 15-team no-trade list. Thursday morning, the 34-year-old agreed to waive the clause, and the deal is done.

For Anaheim, it's the first big veteran addition since the signing of the second-winningest coach in league history, Joel Quenneville. The three-time Stanley Cup champion will now have some added veteran savvy in the lineup to go with an exciting young core. The Ducks began that process this past season with another trade with the Rangers, acquiring their captain, Jacob Trouba.

There will undoubtedly be more big moves to come for the Ducks this summer, who took a big step this past year, improving by 21 points. Next stop: the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
