Canucks Rumors: Vancouver & Conor Garland Closing In On Long-Term Extension

Vancouver Canucks forward Conor Garland reacts during 2025 game.

The Vancouver Canucks and forward Conor Garland are on the verge of hammering out a contract extension, with both sides showing strong interest in getting a deal done once eligible on July 1.

According to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, talks have made “significant progress,” and a new deal could be finalized shortly after the window opens.

Canucks, Conor Garland Reportedly Closing in on Contract Extension

Garland, 29, has one year remaining on his current five-year, $24.75 million deal ($4.95M AAV) signed after being acquired from the Arizona Coyotes in 2021. Coming off a solid 50-point season, his second in Vancouver over that mark, Garland is projected by AFP Analytics to command a five-year deal worth just over $6.1 million annually.

Insiders like Elliotte Friedman and David Pagnotta also report mutual interest in a long-term fit and that the deal is expected to be six years, with an AAV of $6M.

Vancouver Locks in Core As Free Agency Nears

Garland’s versatility, ability to play up and down the lineup, and steady production make him a valuable asset to keep as the Canucks aim to stabilize their forward group following a drama-filled 2024-25 campaign.

With Brock Boeser expected to depart and GM Patrik Allvin already making moves, including trading for Evander Kane and re-signing Derek Forbort, extending Garland would keep Vancouver with a key piece on the wing heading into what’s expected to be an active summer.

The Canucks are also working on an extension with goaltender Thatcher Demko, with July 1 shaping up to be a big day for the franchise’s roster planning. Garland’s deal may be the first domino to fall.
