Canucks Rumors: Vancouver Very Interested In Wild's Marco Rossi & Can Afford The Asking Price

The Vancouver Canucks may be closing in on a top-six center and it could cost them far less than expected.

According to The Athletic's Michael Russo, the Canucks are “very interested” in acquiring Marco Rossi from the Minnesota Wild. The 23-year-old just completed a breakout 60-point season but appears to have fallen out of favor in Minnesota, opening the door for a deal that doesn’t involve a blockbuster return.

A Strong Fit in Vancouver's Lineup

The Canucks have been hunting for a reliable second-line center since trading J.T. Miller. Rossi would slide in seamlessly behind Elias Pettersson, offering skill, youth, and secondary scoring.

Multiple insiders suggest the Wild are exploring a two-step trade strategy: deal Rossi for futures, like draft picks or prospects, and then flip those assets for a more playoff-ready player. That plays right into Vancouver’s strengths, especially with their 15th overall pick in the upcoming NHL Draft and prospects like Jonathan Lekkerimäki available.

Trade Price May Be Lower Than Expected

Despite Rossi's production—24 goals and 60 points last season—the Wild reportedly don’t want to commit to a long-term extension due to his playoff usage and size concerns. Talks of a bridge deal have fizzled, and Rossi’s camp seems open to a fresh start.

Scouts believe he’s still improving and would thrive in a new environment like Vancouver, where he wouldn't be buried in the lineup. With just under $14 million in cap space, the Canucks can afford both the acquisition cost and Rossi’s next contract, potentially making this one of the biggest moves of the offseason.
