Insider Says Rangers In Advanced Discussions To Send Kreider Out West

Chris Kreider, New York Rangers
The New York Rangers may be on the verge of clearing necessary cap space as it has been rumored for a while that they were trying to trade Chris Kreider. He has two years left on his deal at $6.5 million AAV and has a 15-team no trade clause. This doesn't seem to include the team the Rangers are in discussions with though, the Anaheim Ducks.

Frank Seravalli noted that sources have told him the Rangers and Ducks are in advanced discussions on a deal that would send Kreider out West. The insider also said that there is no schematics and no deal at the moment, but there is interest and a framework to get the deal done. Seravalli revealed that both teams had other items to attend to and will likely dive deeper on Wednesday. We could see a deal done pretty soon.

Kreider has run his course in New York, but the Ducks took good strides last season and have a lot of cap space to work with. They have been linked to free agents like Mitch Marner and Nikolaj Ehlers, but also delving into the trade market is smart as well. It won't cost them as much cap space and Kreider can still score as well as work the net front.

There is a chance that a player comes back in the trade as the Rangers have been looking to shake up their roster to get back to the level they were at in 2023-24. If Kreider comes off the books and the roster, it opens up more space to re-sign players or sign players as well as room for the young talented group of players to get more playing time.

If the Ducks bring in Kreider, it isn't a long commitment and he would surely help add more scoring as the core grows and gets better as well. This seems like a deal that is going to get done sooner than later and one that should help both sides.
