Insider Would Be Shocked If Brad Marchand Doesn’t Sign with Maple Leafs

Brad Marchand is rumored to be coming to Toronto Maple Leafs in free agency

Brad Marchand has certainly been making waves on social media in the aftermath of the Florida Panthers' Stanley Cup triumph. He's been front and center in the celebrations around town with his teammates, and he certainly looks like a man who's happy in his environment.

But all of the talk around Marchand's free agency is that he'll be looking for the highest bidder from a contending team. Numbers like four years and $8.5 million AAV have been thrown around as to what the 37-year-old will be looking for.

Sportsnet insider Nick Kypreos has revealed that he feels that Marchand coming to the Toronto Maple Leafs is a slam dunk.

Speaking on Leafs Morning Take with host Nick Alberga, Kypreos was asked what the chances are of Marchand signing with the Buds:

Marchand? Very good! If you read between the lines, he's the first one to say, 'I was underpaid in Boston, and I'm gonna go out there and make it up now'. And there's no team on the planet right now that can satisfy the lost income he had on the last three, four years of his Boston Bruins deal than the Toronto Maple Leafs.

I don't know how he DOESN'T end up as a Maple Leaf, let me put it that way.

Marchand read about Kypreos's comments, and went on Instagram to respond himself, "S**t dawg ...The people wanna see it???”

The king rat and instigator has haunted the Leafs over the past decade, eliminating them in the playoffs time and time again, being the only player in NHL history to go 5-0 all-time against an opponent in Game 7s.

Is Brad Marchand signing with the Maple Leafs in free agency?

The old 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em' axiom would never be so appropos than if they were able to bring him to Toronto.

It would certainly help GM Brad Treliving start on his goal of "changing the DNA" of this Leafs team.

Meanwhile, however, Marchand, during his very public celebrations in South Florida, insinuated he's coming back to the Panthers. As fans in a bar chanted "Stay! Stay! Stay!", Marchand looked at someone and mouthed the words, "I'm not f-----n' leaving," while indicating four fingers (is that years on his new deal?):

Many a player across the world of sports has said similar things in the glow of championship celebrations. We'll see how that all shakes out once the high wears off and contract negotiations begin.

As Alberga said, this is The Summer of Brad.
