NHL Rumors: 2 Teams Linked To Islanders' Jean-Gabriel Pageau
New York Islanders forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau was discussed often in the rumor mill leading up to the 2025 NHL trade deadline, but ended up staying put. While this was the case, he will be a player to watch yet again this summer, especially with the veteran forward entering the final year of his contract.
Pageau is reportedly generating interest, too, as The Fourth Period reported that the Carolina Hurricanes and Winnipeg Jets are linked to him.
The Hurricanes being connected to Pageau is easy to understand. When looking at their roster, it is fair to argue that they would benefit by bringing in Pageau to their middle six, power play, and penalty kill. In addition, Jack Roslovic is one of their pending unrestricted free agents, and he will need to be replaced if he ends up walking.
The Jets, on the other hand, need help at the center position, so it makes sense that they have Pageau on their radar. Pageau could replace Vladislav Namestnikov as their second line if acquired but also could fill out their bottom six nicely. In either scenario, the Jets' center depth would improve by acquiring Pageau, so it could be a move worth making for the Central Division club.
It will be interesting to see if either of these two clubs end up acquiring Pageau from the Islanders this offseason from here.
