NHL Rumors: 3 Edmonton Oilers Not Expected Back Next Season
The Edmonton Oilers have their backs against the wall. The Florida Panthers are one win away from hoisting the Stanley Cup, after a dominating win in Edmonton on Saturday night. The Oilers are in tough to come back out of this hole, but don't ever count out any team with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
As far as the rest of the roster is concerned, there's been plenty of inconsistency throughout the Oilers lineup, and here's three players who aren't expected back next season:
Stuart Skinner
Enough is enough, Skinner hasn't been able to carry the workload in the Oilers' crease, and with Calvin Pickard getting the call in the biggest game(s) of the season, look for Edmonton to move on from Skinner this offseason. Stuart holds an .891 save percentage throughout the playoffs, and has one season left at $2.6 million, but he doesn't have any trade protection on his contract.
John Klingberg
The experiment hasn't worked out in Edmonton, as John Klingberg has been in and out of the lineup, and unfortunately his flashes of brilliance haven't overshadowed his costly mistakes. Klingberg is a pending unrestricted free agent and don't expect to see the Oilers circle back. One goal and three assists in 18 Stanley Cup games, it's been a rough few years for Klingberg, and he'll look to catch on with another team this offseason.
Jeff Skinner
Speaking of experiments, the 'other' Skinner hasn't worked out with the Oilers as well, and look for the shifty winger to hit the open market come July 1 when free agency begins. Skinner's been a healthy scratch for most of the playoffs, which is a sad turn of events because it's his first time ever reaching the Stanley Cup Playoffs throughout his career. Skinner, 33, will try to sign a one-year deal with another team come July, after posting 29 points in 72 games during the regular season, and two points in four postseason games.
