NHL Rumors: 3 Potential Free-Agent Destinations For James van Riemsdyk

James van Riemsdyk, Columbus Blue Jackets

After not landing a contract until the middle of September last offseason, James van Riemsdyk put together a solid season with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2024-25. In 71 games, the veteran winger recorded 16 goals and 36 points.

With this, JVR showed that he can still provide solid secondary scoring in a depth role. Due to this, let's look at three teams who could try to sign him this summer now.

New Jersey Devils

It is no secret that the Devils should be looking to add more offense to their bottom six this off-season, and signing a winger like van Riemsdyk could provide them with just that. The New Jersey native could work well on their third line if signed and would also offer them a solid option for their power play because of his strong net-front presence ability.

Detroit Red Wings

The Red Wings could consider bringing in a forward like van Riemsdyk for more forward depth. When looking at their roster, he could slot nicely in their bottom six. He would also give them another veteran to help mentor their younger players if signed, which could come in handy for a Red Wings team looking to make the playoffs.

Carolina Hurricanes

van Riemsdyk could also make sense as a target for the Hurricanes. They are entering the off-season with multiple pending UFA forwards, including Jack Roslovic, Eric Robinson, and Tyson Jost. With this, they could be on the hunt for more forward depth this summer, and JVR could be a solid player for them to bring in on a cheap one-year deal.
