NHL Rumors: 3 Potential Free-Agent Destinations For Matt Duchene

Matt Duchene, Dallas Stars

Matt Duchene is the Dallas Stars' top pending unrestricted free agent this off-season. The 34-year-old had an excellent 2024-25 campaign, posting 30 goals and 82 points in 82 games. Due to this, it is likely that the Stars will look to keep him around, but they also have limited cap space. This could make things difficult.

Due to this, let's take a look at three teams who could sign Duchene if he hits the free-agent market on July 1.

Minnesota Wild

The Wild need to improve down the middle this offseason, so they could very well look to target Duchene if he becomes a free agent. He would upgrade the Wild's top six significantly and would be an obvious choice for their power play if signed, too.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes are heading into the summer with plenty of cap space, so they could make a run at Duchene if he is available for the taking on July 1. This is especially so when noting that they could use an upgrade at their second-line center spot, as Duchene would give them just that.

Winnipeg Jets

The Jets could be another team to watch when it comes to Duchene. He would give them a proven second-line center, which is something Winnipeg could use right now. He would also give them another valuable weapon for their power play.
