NHL News: Carolina Hurricanes' Jesper Fast Announces Retirement
Carolina Hurricanes forward Jesper Fast has officially announced his retirement from professional hockey at the age of 33.
Fast's retirement news comes after he missed the entirety of the 2024-25 season after undergoing neck surgery. Now, the Nassjo, Sweden native is ready to hang up the skates and move on to the next chapter of his life.
Fast Had Solid Career As Reliable Depth Forward
Fast was selected by the New York Rangers with the 157th overall pick of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. From there, he spent his first seven NHL seasons as a member of the Rangers from 2013-14 to 2019-20, where he posted 55 goals, 92 assists, 147 points, 704 hits, and a plus-12 rating.
Following his Rangers tenure, Fast joined the Hurricanes and played his final four NHL seasons in Carolina. In 281 games with the Canes over that span, he recorded 36 goals, 65 assists, 101 points, 370 hits, and a plus-29 rating.
In 703 career NHL games, Fast had 91 goals, 248 points, and a plus-41 rating. He also played in 80 career playoff games, where he had 14 goals and 27 points. Overall, he had a solid NHL career as an energy player.
