NHL Rumors: Evgeni Malkin Trade Talks Quiet, For Now

Pittsburgh Penguins legend Evgeni Malkin has been all over the news lately, as reports have surfaced stating the Penguins have no interest in re-signing Malkin at any point this season. Malkin has one year remaining on his deal and is eligible to sign an extension in July, but all signs are pointing to a divorce.

So, is a trade likely? At this point it doesn't appear so, as hockey insider Frank Seravalli doesn't see Malkin leaving the Penguins, even without a contract for the 2026-27 season. Seravalli commented on Malkin's future in a recent episode of Daily Faceoff Live:

I would say that I don’t think Evgeni Malkin has shown a lot of interest in playing elsewhere. I think Evgeni Malkin is one of the last remaining things that’s tying Sidney Crosby to Pittsburgh. I think Crosby hasn’t really spent much time entertaining, at least as far as I can tell, playing elsewhere, but I think especially he doesn’t have an interest in making a decision on anything until after his career has wrapped up playing with Malkin. I think Kyle Dubas would love it. I think he would like to turn over this roster as soon as possible, but this year is one more step in that process.

Malkin is owed $6.1 million against the cap next season and owns a full no-movement clause, giving him full control of his future next season. After that, at this point, is anyone's guess.
