NHL Trade Rumors: 3 Potential Trade Destinations for Avalanche Charlie Coyle

The Colorado Avalanche are a team to watch on the trade market leading up to the NHL Draft, and one player in particular is drawing a lot of attention, center Charlie Coyle.

Avalanche general manager Chris MacFarland has to get creative to upgrade his roster this summer, as he has only $1.2 million to work with in cap space, and several holes to fill, so moving Coyle and his $5.25 million cap hit could be an avenue the team explores. Coyle has trade protection on his contract, so will certainly have some say in the matter.

The 33-year-old center appeared in 19 games with the Avs last season, recording 13 points, however at times, butted heads with Nathan MacKinnon. With Brock Nelson unexpectedly re-signing a long-term contract in Colorado, Coyle's chances of getting traded went way up after the deal was announced.

As far as potential destinations go, the Toronto Maple Leafs, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Anaheim Ducks are three teams to keep an eye on as they are all looking for help down the middle of the ice. The Avalanche are trying to land some help on the wing this summer, and moving Coyle could be the way to make an upgrade among their top six. Don't be surprised if a prospect or a 2026 draft pick is included in the trade to sweeten the return.
