NHL Free Agency: Mikael Granlund to the St. Louis Blues?

The St. Louis Blues have $5.02 million in cap space to work with this summer, and while many feel they'll use most of it to lock up goaltender Joel Hofer to a long-term extension, beat writer Andy Strickland feels the team's number-one priority will be to sign free-agent forward Mikael Granlund.

The Dallas Stars are in a very tough spot, with only $1.9 million in cap space to work with at the moment. They've traded Mason Marchment for nothing in a cap-dump deal, and have the likes of Jamie Benn, Granlund, Evgenii Dadonov, Collin Blackwell, Brendan Smith and Cody Ceci all hitting the free-agent market in less than a week.

There's been a lot of talks about Jason Robertson's name being available, but at this point, that seems like a complete long shot given that he's one of the team's leading scorers, and a huge part of their core moving forward.

Benn would like to return, but at this point, the same can't necessarily be said for Granlund. The speedy versatile forward will look to get paid on the open market, after posting 21 points in 31 regular season games with the Stars, and another 10 points in 18 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

As for the Blues, Granlund could be a target, and don't be surprised if the team entertains trade offers on Jordan Kyrou ahead of the NHL Draft.
