The veteran takes less to stay in his adopted hometown.
Giroux appeared in 81 games for the Senators last season, scoring 15 goals and 50 points. He'd add another five points during the Senators first-round Stanley Cup Playoff series against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Claude Giroux, signed 1x$2M by OTT, is a veteran complementary playmaking forward. At this point isn’t going to handle or shoot the puck too much or move up the ice quickly, but he can make helpful facilitating plays. #GoSensGo pic.twitter.com/7d4eRPumaf

Giroux has spent three seasons with the Sens, and has been a huge influence on their young core within the dressing room. The former first-round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers has appeared in 1263 career NHL games, registering 365 goals, and 1116 points. Giroux has been a huge postseason contributor, recording 86 points in 101 games.
With Giroux locked up, the Senators can turn their attention to potentially bringing back Nick Cousins, Adam Gaudette, or Travis Hamonic. They also have to find a backup goaltender, as Anton Forsberg is also a pending unrestricted free agent.
