Cousins, 31, joined the Senators this past off-season after winning the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers in 2024. In 50 games this season with the Senators, Cousins recorded six goals, nine assists, 15 points, 41 penalty minutes, 85 hits, and a minus-1 rating.
With this move, Cousins will continue to provide the Senators with plenty of grit in their bottom six. In addition, he will once again be a solid veteran forward for them to have around to help mentor their younger players.
Overall, this is a very low-risk move for the Senators. Not only is it a one-year contract but it is also at an easily affordable $825,000 cap hit. Thus, it is hard to find much to complain about when it comes to this move from the Senators.
In 642 career NHL games over 11 seasons split between the Philadelphia Flyers, Arizona Coyotes, Montreal Canadiens, Vegas Golden Knights, Nashville Predators, Panthers, and Senators, Cousins has recorded 77 goals, 118 assists, 195 points, 353 penalty minutes, and 851 hits. It will be interesting to see how Cousins builds on his career numbers with the Senators during the 2025-26 season from here.
