Top 5 Teams Linked To Wild's Rossi

Marco Rossi, Minnesota Wild
One of the more baffling rumors of the offseason remains why Marco Rossi may be on the trade market. According to The Fourth Period, the Minnesota Wild are actively trying to move Rossi and the RFA is looking for a long-term deal in the range of $45-50 million. That's between $5.625 and $6.25 million AAV. For a 60 point player who is just 22 years old, that's a great deal. There has to be more going on, but these are five teams who have been linked to Rossi if a trade does go down.

Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers are in pretty desperate need of a top-6 center, and they couldn't ask for a better one that is only 22 and looking for a long-term deal at a great price. This would take some pressure off Sean Couturier and shift Noah Cates down to the third line center role where he would be better suited for. Jett Luchanko appears to be a strong piece for the future, but the Flyers are a little further along than that.

Montreal Canadiens

There is a strong sense that the Montreal Canadiens can't trust Kirby Dach as their second line center. A lot to do with this is his injury issues and questionable production. Despite picking up Alex Newhook, he's also not the answer for the second line center role either. Whether one of them is used to help acquire Rossi or just moved around the lineup, the Canadiens would look a lot better targeting a young second line centerman to have a 1-2 punch with Nick Suzuki. The future already looks bright, but this part of the lineup has to be addressed.

Vancouver Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks should absolutely be in on any centerman available, especially a 22-year-old one who can produce offensively. After moving on from J.T. Miller and the big piece up front being returned was Filip Chytil, the Canucks need injury insurance as well as to get deeper down the middle. The future of Elias Pettersson is still up in the air, but adding a player like Rossi would definitely make being in Vancouver better than it felt this season.

Nashville Predators

The best the older Nashville Predators can do to address their center ice position is Fyodor Svechkov. The hope is that he can eventually at least take over the second line role. Since there isn't anyone else coming quick enough, the upgrades by the Predators have to come externally. Rossi may be the perfect opportunity. The team has tons of assets and will make the cap room. There has been a lot of altering of the roster over the past year and after last season, the team can't sit quietly this offseason.

Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames brought in Morgan Frost during this season, but I don't think he is the answer as a top-6 center. I believe he will fit in well as a third line center, and with Mikael Backlund having one year left on his deal, a replacement for the top-6 is necessary. Nazem Kadri still has it for now, but Rossi has shown that he can be a first line center. He is only going to get better as he gains more experience. He has grown very quickly in the NHL to this point. The Flames seem to be at a point where they want to start to compete with the well-rounded team they have, but adding offense is a necessary move this summer.
