Blackhawks Rumors: Chicago Keeps Failing To Bring In Top Winger For Connor Bedard

The Chicago Blackhawks have yet to deliver Connor Bedard the elite winger he needs to fully unlock his offensive potential.

Despite attempts to sign top-tier talent, including a strong push for Jake Guentzel last offseason, no prime-aged star has been willing to join the rebuilding franchise. Instead, the Blackhawks have filled gaps with secondary options like Tyler Bertuzzi and Teuvo Teräväinen, leaving Bedard poised to enter his third NHL season without a high-caliber partner on his top line.

Bedard Needs a True Top-Line Running Mate

Mark Lazerus of The Athletic noted that finding a winger capable of matching Bedard’s skill and speed has become one of GM Kyle Davidson’s biggest challenges. The team’s long-term rebuild and consecutive bottom-five finishes have made it difficult to lure elite talent, even with the promise of playing alongside one of the NHL’s brightest young stars.

Patrick Kane, who would have been an ideal mentor and linemate, was never seriously pursued after Bedard was drafted, further limiting the team’s options.

Bedard Focused on Progress Despite Challenges

While the lack of elite linemates could slow his development, Bedard has not shown public frustration. The 20-year-old is coming off back-to-back 60-point seasons and has spent the offseason working on improving his speed and separation in the offensive zone.

Bedard also expressed confidence about his long-term future with the organization as he enters the final year of his entry-level contract, stating that extension talks with the Blackhawks have been “positive” and that he hopes to remain in Chicago for the long haul.
