Canucks Rumors: Vancouver Eyeing Several Players In Free Agency

Despite a quiet start to July, the Vancouver Canucks are not finished reshaping their roster.

According to The Athletic's Thomas Drance, management is eyeing several free agents still on the market but can’t make serious offers unless they free up cap space. After re-signing key players and trading goalie Artūrs Šilovs, the Canucks are capped out and now exploring ways to offload salary before diving back into free agency.

Canucks Exploring Free Agency

The Canucks’ most likely path to opening cap space involves dealing roster players. Drance identifies Teddy Blueger ($1.85M AAV) and Dakota Joshua ($3.25M AAV, three years remaining) as the primary trade candidates, as also noted by NHLTradeRumor's Rob Couch

Blueger’s contract is expiring, and Joshua’s gritty, middle-six profile may appeal to teams looking for physicality. A trade involving either forward could allow Vancouver to target undervalued UFAs in August, something the club has done effectively in the past with signings like Pius Suter and Kevin Lankinen.

Some of the players still remaining in free agency include Andreas Athanasiou, Robby Fabbri, Jack Roslovic, Matt Grzelcyk, Klim Kostin, Max Pacioretty, and Victor Olofsson, among others.

Roster Battles Loom as Canucks Navigate Tight Cap

Until a move happens, Vancouver’s internal competition is heating up. With 20 roster spots virtually locked in, young forwards like Aatu Räty, Arshdeep Bains, and Linus Karlsson are battling for the final forward jobs, while Pierre-Olivier Joseph, Victor Mancini, and others will compete for a depth defense role.
