NHL News: Christian Fischer Announces Retirement After 9 Seasons
While speaking with The Athletic's Max Bultman, Christian Fischer announced his retirement from the NHL.
Fischer announcing his retirement could be a bit surprising to some, as he is only 28 years, and likely could have kept playing for several more years. However, he is hanging up the skates after a solid career as a bottom-six forward.
Fischer appeared in 46 games this past season split between the Detroit Red Wings and Blue Jackets, where he posted one goal, seven points, 93 hits, and a minus-6 rating. After being claimed off waivers by the Blue Jackets from the Red Wings, he played in just one game for Columbus to round off his professional career.
Fischer was selected by the Arizona Coyotes with the 32nd overall pick of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. In 523 career NHL games split between the Coyotes, Red Wings, and Blue Jackets, Fischer recorded 62 goals, 75 assists, 137 points, and 978 hits. His best season in the NHL was during the 2017-18 season with the Coyotes, as he set career highs with 15 goals, 18 assists, and 33 points in 79 games.
