The New York Rangers have signed veteran forward Conor Sheary to a professional tryout (PTO) ahead of the 2025-26 NHL season.

The 33-year-old, who won two Stanley Cups under new Rangers head coach Mike Sullivan during their time with the Pittsburgh Penguins, will look to earn a depth role with the team.

Rangers Bring in Conor Sheary on Professional Tryout

Sheary spent most of last season in the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch, tallying 20 goals and 61 points in 59 games. He appeared in just five NHL contests for the Tampa Bay Lightning, going scoreless before the two sides agreed to terminate his contract this summer. Sheary has 593 career NHL games under his belt with 124 goals and 267 points.

The Rangers already have a crowded bottom-six competition with players like Matt Rempe, Adam Edstrom, Taylor Raddysh, and prospects Brennan Othmann and Brett Berard vying for roster spots.

Sheary’s familiarity with Sullivan could give him an edge, but his PTO suggests he’ll need to stand out in training camp to secure a contract.
