Breaking: Marco Rossi & Minnesota Wild Finally Come to Agreement

Marco Rossi & Wild finally sign new deal

It's been a long, drawn-out stalemate this summer between restricted free agent Marco Rossi and the Minnesota Wild, but the two sides have finally come to an agreement.

After Rossi had pushed for a long-term deal, while the Wild were more interested in something short-term and at less of a cap hit, insiders report that they've compromised on a three-year bridge deal with an AAV of $5 million.

This has to be considered a win for the Wild, as Rossi's camp was aiming to hit the $7 million AAV mark, and indeed, AFP Analytics had pegged the 5'9" center as being able to command a seven-year, $7.3M AAV deal.

The agreement staves off any potential of a training camp holdout by Rossi, the possibility of which was raised in the past week

Now, the promising young center can just focus on continuing to raise the level of his game, and trying to lock himself in as a second-line center. This past year, he increased his production by 50%, going from 40 points in his rookie year to 60 points (24 goals, 36 assists). He also produced a plus/minus rating of +3.

The contract escalates in salary, as he'll be paid $4M the first year, $5M in Year 2 and $6M in the third and final year. He'll be an RFA once again at expiration, this time with arbitration. At that time, he'll be just one year away from unrestricted free agent eligibility. The deal does not include any trade-protection clauses.

It was just yesterday that we learned that two teams were ready to make new trade offers for Rossi if the two sides couldn't come to an agreement. Crisis avoided for the Wild.
