Door Isn't Closed On Jack Roslovic With Former Team
Jack Roslovic may be the most sought after UFA left on the market as we are past the halfway point in August and there aren't too many options for teams to still upgrade via free agency. That being said, he is a strong middle-6 talent that scored 22 goals and 39 points last season with 21 of the goals and 37 of the points coming at even strength.
Among the teams that have been connected to Roslovic is the Carolina Hurricanes, who he played for last season. Frank Seravalli said, "One other thing for Carolina and Roslovic, the door isn't completely closed, but they don't really have a spot for him at the moment.
Roslovic played his smallest role since 2018-19, but he had just as big of an impact as his best season. 22 goals tied his career high and 39 points wasn't far off his career high in that category, except everyone values players being able to produce at 5-on-5 considering there is only a certain amount of time teams spend on the power play and only a certain number of spots.
Carolina isn't in any sort of money crunch as they have plenty to spend this offseason still. Whether they are able to pull off another big move remains to be seen though. They do have a full lineup and it would be very tough to fit him in and pull a couple of deserving players out of the lineup every game. With how the roster and lineup appears to be set up now, Mark Jankowski is the player that makes the most sense to pull out in favour of Roslovic.
Jankowski is currently slated as the fourth line center and only got into 60 games last season, scoring 12 goals and 17 points, which is still good for someone with limited playing time like he had at 12:34. The Hurricanes don't overplay players as much as other teams and the lineup is more spread out, that's also why Roslovic didn't get more ice time last season, averaging under 14 minutes per game last season with the numbers he had. Other fourth liners on the Hurricanes are projected to be Jordan Martinook and Eric Robinson, who both had solid seasons as well, with Tyson Jost and William Carrier as extras and five more players in the system that played games in the NHL last season.
It may not make a ton of sense, but there are going to be injuries to the Hurricanes at different points in the season, so their roster would really be bolstered. Carolina has money, so why not spend it?
