Ducks Rumors: McTavish Isn't In Danger Of Offer Sheet

Mason McTavish, Anaheim Ducks
While it seems like many are convinced Mason McTavish could use a change of scenery at his age after finishing with the most goals and second most points on the Anaheim Ducks last season is interesting. Yes, the team signed Mikael Granlund, have Leo Carlsson and Ryan Strome, and drafted Roger McQueen, but Trevor Zegras was traded away and McTavish is a talented and unique player who's impactful.

The Ducks are trying to get into the playoffs and trading McTavish at this time would only make that a lot more difficult to do. Frank Seravalli said that "(McTavish) was a hot topic...a guy who I think could use a change of scenery. I don't think that's ultimately going to happen...I don't see him as an offer sheet candidate."

There were a couple of offer sheets signed last season, and it was expected that there would be more this season with some teams in tough situations. The Dallas Stars were one, but handled Mavrik Bourque just in time for one year. For an offer sheet to be more effective, the team has to be in a cap crunch and the Ducks are the opposite of that with lots of money to spend.

It is believed that McTavish will likely end up signing a shorter term deal and push the decision down the line a bit, seeing how things go and making the player happy for the time being while also seeing if he can prove himself.

McTavish is an important piece for the Ducks and I think the best course of action for Anaheim is to sign him to 6-8 years. They will eventually have to use big chunks of money to lock up their young guys, but much more cap space is being freed up after next season as well. He is just 22 years old and will be a top-6 player for a long time that is above average in the faceoffs and plays a physical game. The Ducks can't give up on that and I think it'll end with a signing one way or another.
