Jets' Mark Scheifele on Jonathan Toews' Homecoming: 'Was the Perfect Storm'
Jonathan Toews went home this summer and is returning to the NHL with his hometown Winnipeg Jets. Something Jets' number-one center Mark Scheifele is calling a 'perfect storm' that Toews even decided he was going to make his well-documented comeback, and that the Jets had a glaring hole to fill down the middle of the ice.
"I thought it kind of was the perfect storm almost," Scheifele said Saturday, per NHL.com's Derek Van Diest. "Coming back to Winnipeg, coming back from not playing for a couple of years, I thought it all made so much sense. I was obviously hoping that we were the front-runner and we're very excited to have him."Toews signed a one-year contract worth $2 million, which also includes a whopping $5 million in potential performance bonuses. At 37, Toews won't be the same player, especially without playing an NHL game for two years, but, Scheifele is hopeful the legendary Blackhawk can still be effective among their top-six.
Toews last NHL action saw him score 15 goals and 16 assists in 53 games, and the three-time Stanley Cup champion will look to once again find his form, this time in front of family and friends in Winnipeg.
