Kraken Re-Sign Ryker Evans to Multi-Year Deal

Ryker Evans signs extension with Kraken

After seeing time in the top-four for a 20-game stretch during his first full NHL season, defenseman Ryker Evans proved his mettle for the Seattle Kraken, and has earned himself a two-year extension worth $4.1 million ($2.05M AAV).

It's a nice raise for the 23-year-old, coming off his entry-level deal at $900K.

“Ryker took a positive step forward in his first full season in the NHL,” Kraken general manager Jason Botterill said. “Since turning pro, he's shown improvement year over year, and we're confident he'll take his game to another level next season. We're happy to have him under contract."

Evans was a second-round pick by the Kraken in the 2021 NHL Draft, and after getting some seasoning at the AHL level with Coachella Valley for a couple of seasons, where he proved his offensive prowess, Evans got the call full-time in 2024-25 in Seattle, usually as a third-pairing D.

But he was elevated into the top four while Vince Dunn went down to injury for 20 games, and also saw some time on the power play. Evans finished the season with five goals and 25 points in 73 games, while dishing out 123 hits and blocking 106 shots. He averaged 19:29 of ice time per night.

He flashed that offensive upside consistently while at Coachella Valley, posting 44 points in 71 games as a rookie at the pro level, with a plus/minus rating of +19. In the Calder Cup playoffs that year, he took it to a whole other level, with 26 points in 26 games. He split his '23-'24 season between Coachella Valley and Seattle before graduating and becoming a full-fledged part of the Kraken's future as of this past year.
