NHLTR Mock Trade: Flames deal Rasmus Andersson to Ottawa Senators

Calgary Flames defenceman Rasmus Andersson continues to be the big-prize on the trade market, after GM Craig Conroy has been involved in trade talks for over a month. Andersson recently admitted that he declined a trade, using his six-team no-trade clause in July, and recently, talks have fizzled out.

The Flames didn't sign the right-handed blueliner to a contract extension when they were able come July 1, and now with one year left on his deal at $4.5 million AAV, Andersson continues to be the best defenceman available on the market.

NHLTR Mock Trade: Flames move Andersson to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Shane Pinto.

Pinto is a name that's come up throughout the last year when it comes to who teams are asking the Senators about, which also includes Drake Batherson, but the Sens aren't moving Batherson anytime soon. If they want to land their much-needed right-handed d-man to complement Jake Sanderson and Thomas Chabot, they'll have to part with Pinto in this deal.

Pinto scored 21 goals in 70 games last season and has top-six potential long-term. The Flames don't have many right-handed forwards so adding Pinto certainly provides a boost up front.

Andersson may not be open to this deal, so it's hard to say at this point if it's likely, as the Senators may be one of the six teams on his no-trade clause. Either way, these two teams align when it comes to needs, so are two teams to watch ahead of training camp on the trade market.
