NHL Trade Rumors: 3 New Jersey Devils Trade Candidates

The New Jersey Devils have had a busy offseason, and keep an eye on them leading up to training camp next month. The Devils continue to be active in discussions on the trade market, and the one big-fish would be landing Quinn Hughes from the Vancouver Canucks, but for now, those talks seem quiet.

With the Devils being linked to Hughes, and also in the market for another impact forward, there's plenty of trade potential in New Jersey. Here's three Devils who could be next to be moved:

Dawson Mercer

The first player other teams likely ask about is Dawson Mercer. The 23-year-old forward is under contract for two more seasons at $4 million, he doesn't hold trade protection, and last season recorded 19 goals and 36 points in 82 games. Mercer can do it all up front, he plays in all situations and there's plenty of untapped potential in his game. It would have to be Hughes, or another all-star coming back to Jersey if the Devils wind up moving on from Mercer.

Dougie Hamilton

Hamilton has been linked to a few different teams this summer, as trade talks picked up in a major way at the NHL Draft. He's battled injuries throughout most of his career, but when Hamilton is on, he's one of the best right-handed defenceman in the game. Last season in 64 games, Hamilton recorded 40 points. He has three seasons left on his deal at $9 million, and a full no-movement clause, so he holds all the cards. Could the Canucks or Maple Leafs tickle his fancy?

Seamus Casey

Casey is one of the Devils top prospects, and someone who could get a much bigger opportunity this season. At just 21 years old, the sky is the limit for the former 2022 second-round pick. In a brief 14-game stint last season, Casey scored four times and ended up eight points, but if you ask some people in the organization, they feel he could be a 50-point player. If Hughes comes to New Jersey to reunite with his brothers, expect Casey and Mercer to be headed the other way.
