Avalanche Rumors: Who's Most Likely To Be Moved This Offseason
Among the top trade candidates are pending unrestricted free agent Martin Necas, defenseman Samuel Girard, and forward Ross Colton.
While the Avalanche would prefer to extend Necas, there’s growing consideration to let him play out the season and entertain trade offers if negotiations stall. Potential landing spots for Necas could include rebuilding teams like the Philadelphia Flyers, or he could be part of a swap involving players such as Adrian Kempe from the Los Angeles Kings.
Defensive Depth and Cap Management
Samuel Girard’s $5 million cap hit and the strength of Colorado’s defensive core, including stars Cale Makar and Devon Toews, make him a prime candidate for trade if the team acquires another high-priced defenseman. His solid two-way play and reasonable contract could attract other teams, freeing up salary space for the Avalanche.
Ross Colton, battling injuries and carrying a $4 million salary, could also be moved to make room after the re-signing of Brock Nelson. Veteran Josh Manson might follow suit as the team seeks roster flexibility and cap relief.

Roster and Salary Cap
After locking in key players, Colorado has limited cap space (roughly $1.2 million) to complete their roster. The Avalanche front office has made bold moves in the past, and trading valuable depth pieces could be necessary to maintain a competitive lineup.
Retaining stars like Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar is obvious, but managing the supporting cast through trades and signings will be key to remaining a Stanley Cup contender.
