St. Louis Blues sign Milan Lucic to PTO
The St. Louis Blues are rounding out their training camp roster as September approaches, and reports indicate they've invited Milan Lucic on a professional tryout agreement.
Lucic, 37, hasn't played a game in the NHL since appearing in four for the Boston Bruins back in 2023-24. His last full season came in 2022-23, when he dressed in 77 games for the Calgary Flames, scoring seven goals and 19 points, while landing 168 hits.
In November of that season, Lucic took an indefinite leave of absence from the team and later entered the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program. Lucic has since completed the program and been reinstated by the NHL.The veteran enforcer has 17 NHL seasons under his belt including spending nine with the Bruins, four with the Flames, three with the Edmonton Oilers and a lone season in L.A with the Kings.
Lucic is a Stanley Cup Champion, can play a heavy game, but there's going to be questions about his footspeed, and what kind of impact he can have playing a fourth-line role. If he's able to keep up, this could be a sneaky good pickup for the Blues.
Lucic has 1,177 career NHL games to his name, with 586 points, 1,301 penalty minutes. He's also shown up when it matters most, posting 77 points in 136 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
