Winnipeg Jets captain Adam Lowry had hip surgery at the end of May, and was said at that time to need "five to six months" of rehab, which would see him miss the first month or two of the 2025-26 season. But the team revealed a surprising update on Lowry on Tuesday, dropping a social media post showing their warrior captain working out on the ice.

Lowry was dressed in full equipment, though it was merely an informal skate. But being on the ice just three months after a serious hip surgery? That's exciting progress for the key Jets veteran. 

The 32-year-old has every reason to get back into the lineup as soon as he can, as he's going into the final season of his five-year contract ($3.25 million AAV). 

The versatile Vladislav Namestnikov is set to slot into the pivot in place of Lowry on the third line to start the season, but it'll be interesting to see what the arrangement is once Lowry returns. And what if top prospect Brayden Yager proves ready for an opening night assignment with the big club?

The Jets have brought in three-time Stanley Cup champion Jonathan Toews to be their second-line center, behind their star man in the middle at the top of the lineup, Mark Scheifele.

Lowry finished last season with 34 points on a career-high 16 goals along with 18 assists in 73 regular-season games, and added four goals in 13 playoff games, including the thrilling double-overtime winner in Game 7 of the Western Conference First Round series against the St. Louis Blues.
