NHL Rumors: 3 Potential Free-Agent Destinations For Craig Smith
Craig Smith remains an unrestricted free agent (UFA) with September now here. Yet, when noting that he has plenty of experience and can still work in a bottom-six role, it is certainly possible that a team out there could consider signing him to at least a professional tryout (PTO).
Because of this, let's look at three teams who could add Smith.
Nashville Predators
A reunion with Nashville could make sense for Smith. When looking at their current roster, it is fair to argue that they could use a bit more forward depth. If they brought back Smith, he would also provide them with another veteran who could help mentor their younger players. Thus, Nashville could benefit signing Smith to a one-year deal.
New York Islanders
Smith could be a solid pickup for the Islanders, as they would benefit by adding another forward who could play in their bottom six. When looking at their current group, Smith would provide them with another option for their fourth line if signed.
Buffalo Sabres
The Sabres and Smith could also be a good match. If the Sabres brought Smith in, he would provide them with a bit of an upgrade for their fourth line. However, even if he served as a depth player on the Sabres, he still would be a solid veteran to have around in the room.
