San Jose Sharks: Best Addition & Worst Subtraction Of 2025 NHL Offseason

Jan Rutta, San Jose Sharks

The NHL season is just about here, which is undoubtedly exciting news for hockey fans. Due to this, we here at NHL Trade Rumors will be starting a series looking at each team's best addition and worst subtraction of the 2025 NHL off-season.

In this latest edition of the series, we will be focusing on the San Jose Sharks.

Best Addition: Dmitry Orlov

The Sharks made some solid additions to their group this summer, like Jeff Skinner, Nick Leddy, John Klingberg, and Philip Kurashev. However, Dmitry Orlov is their top offseason addition. By signing Orlov, the Sharks have brought in an experienced top-four defenseman who will provide them with more offense from the point. He should be a major part of their defensive group next season because of it.

Worst Subtraction: Jan Rutta

The Sharks did not lose too many notable players this summer, but Jan Rutta is a defenseman who they could miss a bit in 2025-26. While he was not the flashiest of players on San Jose's roster, he was a serviceable defensive defenseman for them. The right-shot defenseman played in 123 games over the last two seasons with the Sharks, where he recorded eight goals and 28 points.
