Toronto Maple Leafs: Best Addition & Worst Subtraction Of 2025 NHL Offseason

Mitch Marner, Toronto Maple Leafs

The NHL season is just about here, which is undoubtedly exciting news for hockey fans. Due to this, we here at NHL Trade Rumors will be starting a series looking at each team's best addition and worst subtraction of the 2025 NHL off-season.

In this latest edition of the series, let's take a look at the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Best Addition: Matias Maccelli

The Maple Leafs brought in some solid bottom-six forwards this summer, like Nicolas Roy and and Dakota Joshua. However, the player with the most upside who the Maple Leafs brought in is Matias Maccelli. While he had a tough 2024-25 season with the Utah Mammoth, the potential for him to bounce back is there. Just back in 2023-24 with the Arizona Coyotes, he set career high with 17 goals, 40 assists, and 57 points in 82 games. This was after he had 11 goals and 49 points in 64 games with Arizona in 2022-23.

Worst Subtraction: Mitch Marner

Mitch Marner is undoubtedly the Maple Leafs' biggest loss from this offseason. The 28-year-old is a legitimate superstar, and the Maple Leafs will certainly miss the offense that he provided for them. In 81 games this past season with the Maple Leafs, he recorded 27 goals and set career highs with 75 assists and 102 points. It will not be easy to replace that kind of offense.
