NHL Trade Rumors: 3 Goaltenders Who Could Be Dealt to Edmonton Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers are under a lot of heat entering training camp this week as they've run it back in net with both Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard in net. However, both goaltenders are entering the final season of their contract, and there's a very good chance the Oilers have a new starting goaltender before the trade deadline passes.
There's no chance that after how inconsistent their goaltenders were during the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season, that Oilers' GM Stan Bowman would be comfortable running it back in the playoffs. Here's three goalies to keep an eye on as trade targets for Edmonton:
Devon Levi, Buffalo Sabres
The Buffalo Sabres have a crowded crease, they have needs up front, and they have done business with the Edmonton Oilers recently, so there's certainly a chance these two teams align as trade partners. The Sabres turned heads when they signed Alex Lyon to a multi-year contract, and already have, the currently injured, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen as their long-term start, and then add in Alexandar Georgiev on a one-year contract, and quickly, Levi has been pushed down the depth chart. Expect Edmonton to monitor the situation.
Jakub Dobes or Jacob Fowler, Montreal Canadiens
The Oilers need to do whatever it takes to land one of the Canadiens young goaltenders from Kent Hughes, which means they would have to move one of their top prospects, and likely, a first-round pick, maybe more for Fowler. The Canadiens have Sam Montembeault as their starter at the moment, and if he continues to develop this season, look for Hughes to use one of his trade chips in net and secure some talent up front for his roster.
Tristan Jarry, Pittsburgh Penguins
With the Oilers not having any goaltender signed for next season, Jarry on a long term deal, with a bounce-back season in mind, could be someone the Oilers circle back on. The Penguins could even retain some of his remaining salary as well in the deal, and he wouldn't cost Bowman an arm and a leg to acquire. Jarry's going to be given a chance to bounce back this season in Pittsburgh, and if he does so, and the team isn't exactly secure in a playoff spot, look for the Oilers to come calling.
