NHL Rumors: Analysts Propose Sidney Crosby Trade To Senators

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby lines up for faceoff during 2025 game.

Should the Ottawa Senators pursue Sidney Crosby if the Pittsburgh Penguins captain becomes available?

Analysts on TSN’s Overdrive suggested Ottawa is entering a two-to-three-year window to chase the Stanley Cup, making them a possible fit if Crosby waives his no-movement clause.

Should the Senators Pursue Sidney Crosby?

Jeff O’Neill noted Penguins GM Kyle Dubas would demand a massive return, potentially equivalent to Ottawa defenseman Jake Sanderson. Jamie McLennan countered that such an ask would end the conversation quickly, arguing no team should part with a franchise cornerstone for an aging star, even one of Crosby’s stature.

Crosby, 38, carries an $8.7 million cap hit through 2026-27.

The Montreal Canadiens, Crosby’s boyhood favorite team, and the Colorado Avalanche, led by his close friend Nathan MacKinnon, are also mentioned as logical landing spots. Still, Ottawa’s improving core, led by Brady Tkachuk, Tim Stützle, and Sanderson, could appeal to Crosby if he sees a chance to win again.

Again, as with all Crosby trade rumors, it's highly unlikely until it actually happens.
