Breaking: Brady Tkachuk Has Hand Surgery; Return Timeline Revealed

Brady Tkachuk, Ottawa Senators captain

The mystery surrounding just how long the Ottawa Senators will be without Brady Tkachuk has been solved. The team has revealed that their captain and spiritual leader had hand surgery today, and will be missing from the lineup for six to eight weeks.

That timeline would keep him out for about 20-to-25 games and have him back late November or the first half of December.

The hand injury occurred when he was pushed from behind into the boards by Nashville defenseman Roman Josi on Monday night.

Tkachuk tried to break his fall into the boards with his hands, resulting in the injury to the ligament of his right thumb.

He went for a second opinion on Wednesday, and obviously, urgent surgery was the call.

"We're making sure that we're taking care of him, and that we do the right thing," said head coach Travis Green earlier in the day.

For what it's worth, Ottawa went 5-4-1 in the 10 games Tkachuk missed last season.

The Sens recalled winger Arthur Kaliyev from their American Hockey League affiliate in Belleville to replace Tkachuk on the roster.

Ottawa is off to a 1-3-0 start to the season, and are riding a three-game losing streak.
