Canucks In Desperate Need Of A Forward Addition
The Vancouver Canucks have started on the right foot, beginning the season with a 4-2-0 record, but they are in rough shape right now with injuries. Even before injuries, they had eyes on adding more up front to the forward group.
Now, Brock Boeser, Teddy Blueger, Filip Chytil, Nils Hoglander, and Jonathan Lekkerimaki are all sidelined. The Canucks have two forwards who have yet to play a game in the NHL this season, up with the team, as well as three others who have gotten into four or fewer games with Vancouver this season, as well as no healthy players in the press box.
Chris Johnston had previously reported that, "They're a front office that understands they probably need to add another impact forward. The trade market around the league has been frozen now for a couple months."
Boeser is the only player listed as day-to-day, so help has to come, even if the Canucks have to work things out at a later time. There are multiple of their forwards who shouldn't be in the NHL in the roles they are in yet or ever, like Joe Labate, who played 13 games for the Canucks in 2016-17 (23 years old) and then didn't play again in the NHL until last season (31 years old).
The Canucks, despite all of their injuries and a mediocre lineup, are still aiming for the playoffs and beyond, not looking to the bottom of the standings to a rebuild while Quinn Hughes is still a member of the team. There are absolutely players available around the league that can help the Canucks now and when the team possibly gets healthy all at once. Are the Canucks willing to pay up is the question. They must pull the trigger soon, before their game might start to slip.
