Jack Eichel should be sending a 'Thank You' card to Kirill Kaprizov. Aside from Connor McDavid, who is really in a league of his own, Eichel is the next biggest pending UFA working on an extension at this time.

While the Vegas Golden Knights have been working away at getting something done, there's no doubt that the Kaprizov signing will have an impact on Eichel's next contract. Insider Pierre LeBrun, on TSN's Insider Trading, has a projected number that it'll likely take to get pen to paper.

Where does that end up? I don't know how much far north of Mitch Marner's $12 million a year the Golden Knights would like to get to, but it's probably gonna have to be closer to $14 million a year for this deal to get done from the player's side here. Especially in the context of Kaprizov just signing for $17 million.

LeBrun does add, however, that the lack of state income taxes in Nevada should play into the negotiations. That's a luxury that the Wild and Kaprizov did not have to work with.

And while everyone is talking about the impact that the Kaprizov deal is having for others, LeBrun says it is now Eichel that will be setting the standard.

"When I talk to other people around the league, they feel that it's the Eichel deal that may have a real domino effect when it comes to the next guys after that," said LeBrun. "(Adrian) Kempe, (Alex) Tuch, (Martin) Necas, and so on. The Eichel contract is the one they feel might really further the impact here."

Eichel, 28, is coming off a career-best 94-point season for the Knights, with 28 goals and a personal best 66 assists. The two-way center also registered a plus/minus rating of +32. Even with the splashy addition of Mitch Marner, Eichel will continue to be the leader in Vegas. In four seasons there, he has 100 goals and 253 points in 241 games with a +65 rating and a Stanley Cup championship.
