NHL News: Washington Capitals Place Young Defenseman On Waivers

Vincent Iorio, Washington Capitals

According to PuckPedia, the Washington Capitals have placed defenseman Vincent Iorio on waivers.

Iorio has been on the Capitals' NHL roster but did not play in each of their first four games of the 2025-26 season. Now, with this waiver placement, the rest of the league has the opportunity to claim him if they wish to. However, if he clears waivers, the Capitals will then be able to assign him to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Hershey Bears.

When noting that Iorio is a big right-shot defenseman who is still only 22 years old, it is certainly fair to wonder if there could be a team out there willing to take a shot on him. The 6-foot-4 blueliner could be a solid low-risk player for an NHL club looking for more depth on the blueline to claim. Thus, it will certainly be interesting to see what happens with him from here.

Iorio has played in nine career NHL games over two seasons with the Capitals, where he has recorded one assist, five hits, six blocks, and a plus-1 rating. During this past season with the Bears, the 2021 second-round pick recorded five goals, 15 assists, 20 points, 27 penalty minutes, and a minus-4 rating in 67 AHL games.
