Seattle Kraken's Brandon Montour Takes Leave of Absence

The Seattle Kraken announced on Saturday that defenceman Brandon Montour will be taking a leave of absence from the team to attend to a family matter.

No further details will be shared at this time, per the team.

The 31-year-old Montour is entering his second season with the Kraken after signing a lucrative seven-year contract worth $49.99 million back in July of 2024. In 85 games so far with the franchise, Montour has racked up 18 goals and 27 assists, for 45 points, while averaging an impressive 22:58 of ice-time per game.

The Kraken are 2-0-2 to start the new season as there's some newfound optimism surrounding the team this year as they're expected to force their way into the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Montour is a huge part of their team, at both ends of the ice, so let's hope for his family and the team's sake he'll be able to return sooner than later.

Montour scored a career high 18 goals in his first season with the Kraken last season. He's a known playoff performer with the Florida Panthers and won a Cup in 2023, a postseason where he posted three goals and eight assists for 11 points during their Cup run.

Seattle is in Toronto on Saturday night to faceoff against the Maple Leafs.
