Chicago Blackhawks waive forward Joey Anderson

The Chicago Blackhawks took care of some internal business on Saturday as they team announced they have waived forward Joey Anderson.

If Anderson clears Sunday at 2pm, he'll be assigned to the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs. Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman was first to report the waiver wire on Saturday.

The 27-year-old Anderson missed the start of this season as he's been recovering from a lower-body injury that he suffered during training camp. While he's been ramping up to return, which has included skating at practice, the Blackhawks are rolling and don't necessarily have room for Anderson at the moment obviously, and have decided to try and get him some game action at the AHL level.

Anderson's in his fourth season with the Blackhawks organization and is signed for $800,000 this season. He was originally a third-round pick of the New Jersey Devils all the way back in 2016.

Through 169 career NHL games, which have spanned over the course of seven NHL seasons, Anderson has registered 19 goals and 21 assists, for 40 points. He's suited up for the Devils, Blackhawks, as well as the Toronto Maple Leafs. Anderson was a throw in when the Leafs acquired Jake McCabe from the Blackhawks a couple of seasons ago.
