The St. Louis Blues have added depth to their goaltending group, signing Georgi Romanov to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2025-26 NHL season.

The 25-year-old netminder joins the organization after an impressive preseason showing with the New Jersey Devils, where he stopped 41 of 43 shots over two games, including a 30-save performance against the Ottawa Senators.

Romanov spent the past two seasons within the San Jose Sharks organization, appearing in 10 NHL games and posting an .888 save percentage with a 3.53 goals-against average. While his NHL numbers came on a struggling Sharks team, Romanov found steadier footing in the AHL with the San Jose Barracuda, logging a .904 SV% and 3.12 GAA across 50 career appearances.

A native of Yekaterinburg, Russia, Romanov previously starred in the VHL with Gornyak-UGMK before coming to North America in 2023.

Romanov is expected to report to the Springfield Thunderbirds, the Blues’ AHL affiliate, where he’ll serve as their likely starter following the departure of Colten Ellis, who was claimed on waivers by the Buffalo Sabres

With Jordan Binnington and Joel Hofer locked in as the NHL tandem, Romanov will provide organizational depth and could see spot duty if injuries arise during the condensed 2025-26 season.
