Surprising Clause Revealed in Roslovic's Contract With Oilers
Everyone has been busy shaking their heads about Jack Roslovic costing himself millions by waiting until the season started before signing a free agent deal with the Edmonton Oilers. But no one looked closely at a surprising clause in his contract that has been revealed. And it's possible that his stay in Oil Town might not be a long one.
The 10-year veteran signed only a one-year deal with a $1.5 million AAV. But it comes with a modified no-trade clause: There's a four-team trade list that comes into effect on November 1st. And as insider Elliotte Friedman notes, that date might not be a coincidence:
Roslovic has a pretty interesting contract. On November 1st, which is about the time Zach Hyman comes back, it becomes a four-team trade list...
It's almost like it's a trial to see if everybody's happy here, and I assume the teams on that list are the teams that were also looking at him (in free agency this summer).
The insider does point out that Edmonton does seem excited to be adding the 28-year-old to their forward group, but adds that they also have a lot of bodies to sort through. "They've got a lot of guys to figure out."
Roslovic has four-team trade list in Oilers contract that kicks in soon
Roslovic tied a career-best with 22 goals last season with the Carolina Hurricanes. It's even possible they'll consider putting him right on the top line with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. That would be quite the coming-out party as the newest Oiler.
Lots still to shake out in Edmonton with their forward group. Whether Roslovic will be a long-term part of it (for this year at least) remains to be seen.
