2 Flames' Futures Called Into Question
The Calgary Flames have had a very poor start to the season and some things are going to change. The first thing that is going to happen is that players start being moved. Two players in particular have been called into question about their fits with the team moving forward.
Frank Seravalli said, "I think you'd have to begin to have the conversation about whether or not you think (Morgan) Frost and/or (Joel) Farabee have fit."
Considering the age and production of Frost and Farabee in comparison to the team, I think this is an interesting thing to dive into, but considering the cap hits of both of them, it starts to make a little more sense. The offense of the Flames has been really poor, but Frost has two goals and seven points and Farabee has two goals and six points in 14 games.
Frost is second on the team in points, which just shows where the Flames are at this season in a year where scoring is up again from last season. It was the same story in 2024-25. Calgary couldn't score and Dustin Wolf had to keep them in it.
Frost has one more year on his contract at $4.375 million AAV and Farabee has two more years left after this one on his contract at $5 million AAV. These aren't players to move just yet. The Flames should be looking to trade their veteran players with equal to or less term before young players who could still improve.
Frost is centering the top line and Farabee is on the wing of the second line. Players like Mikael Backlund, Blake Coleman, Ryan Lomberg, and Rasmus Andersson should be on their way out first unless there are persuasive offers sent the Flames' way. This is a team that needs to rebuild, and if that finally happens, then Frost and Farabee would likely be on their way out.
