Boston Bruins Reveal Long-Awaited Update on Charlie McAvoy

Charlie McAvoy, Bruins defenseman kneels on ice after taking a puck to the face

Boston Bruins fans have been waiting for days for an update on Charlie McAvoy, who took that brutal puck to the face on the weekend. The word is finally in, and the B's top defenseman will be out indefinitely after having facial surgery.

Bruins coach Marco Sturm revealed the news to the media.

“Charlie had a facial surgery. Successfully. So he's doing good. He's recovering right now at home, and we still don't know how long he's gonna be out for.”

Ugly incident knocked a couple of McAvoy's teeth out

It was a scary-looking incident as McAvoy was blasted right in the choppers with the puck.

With no timeline on a return, that's a huge blow to the Bruins' blueline, as the top-pairing defender usually gobbles up close to 24 minutes of ice time per night. Their special teams take a big hit as well with McAvoy out.

It's the second straight year he'll miss significant time, as he was only able to play 50 games last season after an AC joint injury and a staph infection that required immediate surgery.

This season, McAvoy had 14 assists in 19 games, with 32 blocked shots. Unfortunately, the 32nd one will keep him out for a while.
