Jets Sign Captain Adam Lowry to Five-Year Contract Extension

The Winnipeg Jets have officially locked in the heart of their identity down the middle.

Captain Adam Lowry has signed a five year, $25 million contract extension that carries a $5 million AAV and begins in the 2026 27 season. The 32 year old centre, who has spent his entire 12 year NHL career in Winnipeg, was set to hit unrestricted free agency in 2026 but now remains a Jet through 2030 31.

Lowry is coming off a career year in 2024 25, posting personal bests with 16 goals, 34 points and a plus 18 rating in 73 games while helping Winnipeg to its first Presidents’ Trophy with a franchise record 116 points.

He followed that up with four goals in the 2025 playoffs, including the double overtime series winner against the St. Louis Blues. Since being named captain in September 2023, the Jets lead the NHL in wins and points and have allowed the fewest goals against per game.

This deal also rewards Lowry’s reputation as one of the league’s most reliable defensive forwards. He has 122 goals and 276 points in 782 career games, plus 24 points in 62 playoff contests, and has finished top ten in Selke Trophy voting in each of the past two seasons.

The extension gives him a sizeable raise from his current $3.25 million AAV.

Lowry’s New Deal Keeps Jets Core Intact

Locking in Lowry at $5 million helps solidify a centre spine that already includes Mark Scheifele, who is signed through 2030 31, and is insulated by stars like Kyle Connor and Connor Hellebuyck, both extended long term.

Winnipeg now has its captain and matchup center under control for the same competitive window as its top offensive and goaltending pieces, keeping the leadership core stable as they continue to chase the franchise’s first Stanley Cup Final appearance.

With Lowry’s new deal on the books, early projections have Winnipeg sitting around $78.7 million committed for the 2026 27 season, leaving roughly $25 million in space under a projected $104 million cap.

A significant portion of that will be needed for Cole Perfetti, a pending RFA with arbitration rights, but most of the other expiring deals are depth pieces. That flexibility gives GM Kevin Cheveldayoff room to be aggressive in adding another core piece via trade or free agency while still keeping his captain and leadership group intact.
