Flyers Trade Rumors: Philadelphia Linked to Blockbuster Quinn Hughes Trade
Quinn Hughes is eventually getting traded from the Vancouver Canucks, and while all the attention has been on the New Jersey Devils, and rightfully so considering both his brothers play there, one team that's gained a ton of traction of late as a prime destination is the Philadelphia Flyers.
According to hockey insider Frank Seravalli, who is very dialed in on Flyers transactions, reports that the team is very interested in Hughes, and could make sense as a trade partner.
“I think they’re one team in the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference that would be salivating to try and get their hands on Quinn Hughes, but they’re far from alone,” Seravalli said.Hughes has one more season on his contract at $7.8 million AAV, and so far through 21 games this season, has recorded 22 points. It's going to make a massive trade and sell pitch to get him to re-sign in July, but one thing at a time, and first thing first, a team is going to have to match the massive demands of Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford.
When it comes to trade packages out of Philadelphia, top prospect Porter Martone would certainly need to be involved, as he's as can't miss as they come, and someone the Canucks would want to build around. Rutherford and Allvin don't want just prospects and picks though and are focused in on NHL talent to help re-tool, so Owen Tippett or Tyson Foerster would likely be included, along with one of Cam York or Travis Sanheim.
The New Jersey Devils have three huge pieces to offer, including Simon Nemec, Dawson Mercer, and a first-round pick, but could potentially wait out the next 18 months, and just sign Hughes for free, instead of trading away three big pieces of their future.
Keep an eye on the Canucks, nothing is imminent, but there's certainly some traction that's been gained this week on the Hughes' trade front, and the Flyers and Devils will be involved until the end.
