Leafs' Craig Berube on Anthony Stolarz Injury: 'worse than we thought'

From bad to worse in Toronto. Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube recently admitted that goaltender Anthony Stolarz injury is a little bit more serious than the team first realized.

Berube spoke to the media and opened up about the latest on his goaltender.

"Worse than we thought," Berube said Thursday, per Sportsnet's Luke Fox. "He's not ready to get on the ice yet and do the things he has needed to do. Hopefully it's soon. I really don't have a timetable for him. Maybe tomorrow he'll be on the ice. I'm not sure."

Stolarz has had issues staying healthy throughout his entire career, and it appears that trend once again continues this season. He was injured on Nov.11 against the Boston Bruins, and after the game Berube said to the media it wasn't a serious thing. Little did he know at the time that it could be a month or so, instead of a week.

The Leafs have been rattled by injuries this season and have barely kept their heads above water. The team is without Auston Matthews, Chris Tanev, Matthew Knies, Brandon Carlo, and Nicolas Roy. Matthews could return as soon as this weekend, but the others don't appear to be closing in on a return.

As for Stolarz, after signing a contract extension in the offseason, he's struggled this year. The 31-year-old has posted a .884 save percentage, and 3.51 goals against average in 13 games this season.
